Kathryn Bernardo, Alden Richards’ sweet moments draw ire of AlDub fans

Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards might have sent major thrill to fans with their interaction at the actress’ surprise birthday dinner, but it was much to the displeasure of some hardcore “AlDub” fans who are still fixated on the actor’s “romance” with former love team, Maine Mendoza.
“AlDub” is a portmanteau of Richard’s name and Mendoza’s monicker, “Yaya Dub,” in the hit kalyeserye segment mounted by the noontime show “Eat Bulaga” in 2015. Their pairing was so phenomenal that their fans formed a fans club, some of whose members actually believed that their romance onscreen was for real.
Meanwhile, Richards and Bernardo, who are now being “shipped” as “KathDen” in show biz circles, recently made headlines when the actor showed up in the dinner party and handed his “Hello, Love, Goodbye” co-star a bouquet of red roses and a gift from a French luxury crystal brand. The latter was surprised by the actor’s gesture as can be seen on photos and videos uploaded by other guests and common friends of the couple who were at the party.
Enter “AlDub” fans who commented on social media about their disappointment at the Kapuso actor, while some even accused Bernardo of “lacking self-respect.”
“Naku gurl mag-isip isip ka. If you have self-respect huwag ka nang pumatol sa may-asawa’t mga anak. Makakahanap ka pa ng ibang walang sabit ng di ka mapulaan,” one @SUNSHIN83626629 said, apparently referring to the unfounded rumor of Richards and Mendoza having children together.

Without mentioning Richards’ name, other fans warned the actor to be “careful” while alleging that his “wife” should be aware of his day-to-day activities.

Many AlDub fans also hoped that Richards and Mendoza’s pairing would “be back,” while others claim they don’t care about the former’s friendship with Bernardo.

Like Richards, Mendoza, who is now happily married to actor-politician Arjo Atayde, also debunked such claims.
The two have explained on multiple occasions that they were never married nor had a love child, with Richards further admitting in a January 2024 interview that he has grown tired of responding to rumormongers.
Richards also revealed he had a “heart-to-heart” talk with Mendoza before she tied the knot with Atayde in July 2023 where he told her “everything” but opted not to disclose the details of their conversation.
