Shaira Alimudin — best known by her stage name Shaira Moro — is moving forward in her music career despite the setback caused by her copyright issue with Australian singer-songwriter Lenka over the former’s viral song “Selos.”
The singer who first made waves on social media said she is ready to stand against body-shamers in her upcoming single “Kabir.”
Shaira was forced to take down “Selos” from streaming platforms while her camp seeks a “cover license.” This after Lenka learned “Selos” had used almost the same melody as her 2008 song “Trouble is a Friend.” Lenka said her camp “is taking action” against Shaira.
Despite this, Shaira appeared unbothered as she announced on her Facebook page on Thursday, March 21, that she will be releasing a new song that showcases herself as a “proud chubby” artist.
“Ilalabas na po ang isa sa mga bago kong kanta soon‼ Daming nagsasabi at nagmumungkahe na dapat daw magpapayat ako dahil celebrity na daw ako kaya dapat maganda ang body figure,” she said. “Sorry po, di po ako artista, local artist lamang po ako and I am proud to say na sa chubby mo makikita ang ganda.”
(One of my new songs will be out soon! Many people told me I needed to lose weight since I’m now a celebrity, and maintaining a good figure is a must. Sorry, I’m not a celebrity. I’m just a local artist and I’m proud to say that beauty exists even among chubby people.)
The singer also pointed out that her song aims to spread “good vibes” while empowering those who are “chubby.”
“Lahat ng chubby o mataba around the globe mag-ingay! Good vibes lang (To those who are chubby or fat around the globe, make some noise! Good vibes only),” she wrote.
In a bid to “change [the] topic,” her agency AHS Productions announced Shaira’s single will be part of her upcoming album “Manifestations,” although details are yet to be disclosed, as of this writing.
“Change Topic. New single of [Shaira Moro] entitled ‘Kabir’ from her new EP solo album ‘Manifestations’ will be available streaming soon on any digital music platforms,” it said in a separate post. “The song is about being proud of so-called ‘Chubby.’”
Meanwhile, Shaira has yet to address Lenka’s copyright concerns or that a legal action is in the offing.
The Filipino singer is also silent on reports that some Filipino netizens and fans had left negative comments on Lenka’s Instagram account in retaliation.
