A firm Heart Evangelista revealed that trusting too much, especially when it comes to the “most angel-like person” she meets, is what she considers her greatest mistake.

Sitting down with her husband, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero,” in a “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” interview on Friday, March 15, Evangelista admitted that being too trusting of others is her “greatest mistake” when asked by entertainment columnist Boy Abunda.

“To trust others too much,” she said in response. “You cannot trust the most angel-like person that comes, you do not drink the first glass of water someone gives you just because you trust them.”

Evangelista stressed that one shouldn’t reveal their “plans and the map to [their] success” since there’s a chance that people “will take advantage of your innocence and sincerity.”

“You cannot reveal your dreams and aspirations. You cannot reveal your plans and you cannot give them the map to your success because people will take advantage of your innocence, sincerity, and heart,” she said matter-of-factly.

“The only people you can really trust are your family, that’s it. Others will not look at you [the same] way. You only show the blueprint of your life to those you trust,” she further added.

Without mentioning any incident in particular, the fashion personality then pointed out that a “blueprint” of someone’s life “will continuously change as [they] grow,” which would lead to the other party “losing their way.”

“But the best news is: because it’s authentically you, this blueprint or map will continuously change as you grow. So somewhere along the way, whoever took this map will lose their way so wala na ‘ko dun (I have nothing to do with it),” she said.

On entering the fashion world

The interview then touched on Evangelista’s foray into the fashion industry, with Abunda asking her thoughts to those who want to follow in her footsteps.

“That’s really nice. For people who want to emulate what I’m doing is really cool,” she began. “It’s nice to hear that because it’s not easy to put yourself out there and not play a character but to be yourself. It’s so easy [to be affected] by what people say, but at the end of the day, if it’s who you are and you love what you do, the hell what people say.”

Evangelista then reiterated that she “never thought” of her job as a fashion influencer to be “competitive” with others, while pointing out that she would rather be competitive with herself.

“I never thought of it as competitive, it only becomes competitive when you look at it, but when you put it in that sense, I’m competitive with myself. I wanna be a better version every time because I want to better myself. It’s not a contest. It’s a party where people go to celebrate one’s individuality and authenticity. There’s no competition,” she said.

During the interview, the fashion personality also said she initially wanted to be part of Fashion Week because she enjoyed dressing up and “appreciating” the art that comes with it.

“Inumpisahan ko ang fashion week dahil maarte ako at mahilig ako magbihis (I started fashion week because I’m girly and I love dressing up),” she said. “I felt this was the dimension I belonged with. I didn’t really think about whether or not people would come [and go].”

Evangelista noted that she was “aware” of being surrounded by fellow fashion influencers, personalities, and anyone part of the industry when she entered while admitting that she “never thought of anything else” at some point.

“The moment I entered, I knew na marami kami at [nanggaling kami] sa iba’t ibang bansa (I knew a lot of us are out there coming from different countries). I never had a problem. It was always such a good environment for me. I never thought of anything else that would come after that,” she said.

Evangelista’s apparent feud with her former glam team, consisting of makeup artist Justin Louise Soriano and hairstylist Jeck Aguilar, was among the biggest entertainment news of 2023. They had since been helping Pia Wurtzbach as she started conquering Fashion Week.
