Camila Cabello said it was an “impulsive” decision on her part when she and her ex-boyfriend Shawn Mendes were once spotted getting cozy last year despite their breakup in 2021. She then explained that she will always have love for the “Mercy” singer.
During Coachella 2023 and one of Taylor Swift’s concerts, the former couple were seen kissing, which made people think that they had gotten back together. However, they denied at the time that they were dating again, emphasizing that there was just so much history of love and friendship between them.
On a recent “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Cabello was asked about her brief reconciliation with the “Treat You Better” singer, and she answered that it was a “fun time” that ran its course.
“It’s crazy because I’m kind of impulsive in that way,” she said. “If I feel it, I say it. I would rather say it and see what happens and then wake up the next day and find out that it’s been heavily documented. I opted for that route. It is what it is. It was a fun time; it was a fun moment.”
The former Fifth Harmony member attested that Mendes is a good person, so she wouldn’t lose all the love he has for him despite not being in a relationship with him anymore.
“I will always care about him and love him. He’s such a good person,” she continued. “I’m lucky ’cause some people have exes who are awful, and he is not. He’s a really kind, good person,”
Cabello underscored that it was a mutual understanding that their romance is no longer working out and that ending it was the best decision there is.
“It took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good. This is not feeling good, like ‘Let’s be friends, I love you. It’s all good, let’s move on,'” she explained.
The “Havana” singer also shared that she is a fan and supporter of getting back with an ex as well as “break-up” sex.
“I feel like if you’re wanting to have breakup sex you’re probably gonna hit each other up next week. There’s still something there,” she said.
“I personally think it’s helpful. You can’t forbid things from me because I will want to do it more. If I want to text him, I’m gonna text him,” added the singer.
Cabello and Mendes first got together in 2019 and broke up after two years of dating. In 2023, they rekindled their romance, which also lasted temporarily.
