Dave Lamar, Morissette Amon’s husband, came to her defense amid accusations of delivering a “lackluster performance” at an event, with the former commending the singer for still staging the show despite being sick.
Lamar showed a clip of Amon from the event, belting her 2021 song “Will You Stay,” as seen on his Facebook page last Saturday, March 2.
“Man, I wish I sound this good when I’m sick. But then again, don’t we all?” he captioned his post.
“But real talk, I took this clip of Mori during this event because I couldn’t believe she still sounded this good despite being sick this day. Whatta trooper!” he added.
Lamar then confirmed in a response to a netizen that the event Amon attended in the clip was the one where she was criticized for allegedly underperforming.
“So this is the said event,” Facebook user Marci O. Santos commented. “You can’t really please everyone. Damned if you don’t and damned if you do. But still, Mori slayed as usual.”
Lamar replied, “You really can’t. It’s just really sad how people will go out of their way to bring someone down without even knowing the other side of the situation.
This stemmed from event director Vic Sevilla’s now-deleted Facebook post, where he claimed that a certain “phoenix” gave a lackluster performance, making her appearance and booking for an event a “waste of time and money.”
While he did not name anyone in particular, netizens presumed that he was referring to Amon who is dubbed as Asia’s Phoenix.
Amon addressed the matter and explained that she was bedridden with a fever and had no voice the day before the event. She also noted that the talent coordinator was made aware of her state at the time.
“I performed as planned, again not a hundred percent, but rest assured I gave my all, even congratulating the awardees on stage and still belting my heart out,” she said.
“I really didn’t think much of this issue [because] my conscience is clear. I have pretty high standards for myself especially when it comes to my craft, but I knew then that there wasn’t really much I could do because I am in fact still human and get sick and have down days too,” she added.
