MANILA, Philippines — Jaclyn Jose’s family is not seeing any foul play in the death of the 59-year-old award-winning actress, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
“The family is asking for privacy, and they believe that there is no foul play in her death. We are sympathizing with her family and friends,” PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said in a mix of English and Filipino during a press briefing.
Fajardo did not mention the actress’ cause of death, underscoring that the family opted to keep matters related to her demise private.

The death of Jose, whose real name is Mary Jane Guck, was confirmed by her management label, PPL Entertainment, after her body was discovered inside her home in Quezon City on Sunday, March 3.
But some sources who requested not to be named said the showbiz veteran could have been dead since Saturday, March 2.

By early Monday, celebrities’ tributes began to pour in for Jaclyn Jose, most of them her co-stars who praised her professionalism and kindheartedness.
On social media, many noted her as a “true icon” in the Philippine entertainment industry.
Dimples Romana thanked the screen veteran for all the “laughter and lessons” she learned from her when she was starting in showbiz.
“Lost another true icon. Tita Jane, I remember all the laughter and lessons you generously taught me as a young actor back when we were shooting ‘Minsan May Isang Puso’ in 2001 and for our ‘May Minamahal’ remake,” she wrote on Instagram. “Mahal kita at laging yayakap ng mahigpit. You will never be forgotten.”
Jose is survived by her two children, daughter Andi Eigenmann and son Gwen Garimond.
Reports revealed that the actress was last seen in the television series “Batang Quiapo” and became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to earn the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress after starring in Brillante Mendoza’s Ma’ Rosa.
