Philippine pop icon Sarah Geronimo is set to make history as she’s about to become the first ever Filipina to be awarded the Global Force Award at Billboard’s Women in Music since its inception in 2007.
The announcement came from Billboard’s social media pages, saying that the OPM superstar has been included in the list of honorees alongside Italian singer-songwriter Annalisa and Brazilian singer-songwriter Luisa Sonza, who will receive the same award.
Geronimo took to X (former Twitter) to express her gratitude to be honored by the prestigious awarding body, saying she dedicates the win to every “dreamer” and Filipino artist.
“Honored and grateful to be one of the recipients of Billboard’s Global Force Award. This recognition belongs to every dreamer and amazing Filipino artist we have. Mabuhay ang OPM! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Maraming salamat, Billboard PH!” she wrote.
Other awardees include Karol G, Woman of the Year; Charli XCX, Powerhouse; Ice Spice, Hitmaker; Kylie Minogue, Icon, Maren Morris, Visionary; K-pop girl group New Jeans, Group of the Year; Pink Pantheress, Producer of the Year; Tems, Breakthrough; Victoria Monet, Rising Star; and Young Miko, Impact Award.

Geronimo has built herself to be one of the foundations of Philippine music, with a career spanning 20 years. Her impact is inevitably meant to shake the music landscape, whether local or global.
Over the years, the popstar royalty has been recognized by different and international award-giving bodies. Geronimo has 15 Awit Awards, an Mnet Asian Music Award, an MTV Europe Music Award, a World Music Award, a Classic Rock Roll of Honour Award, and more under her belt.
Given the range of her music, Geronimo has gathered over 1.5 million monthly listeners and counting on Spotify. She also served as one of the mainstay hosts for multiple seasons of “The Voice of the Philippines,” alongside Broadway legend Lea Salonga and Black Eyed Peas lead Apl De Ap.
Aside from her successful musical career, the “Star for a Night” alumna has also cemented her impact in the Philippine film and TV industry, as she headlined some of the biggest and most successful films in the country, such as “Bituing Walang Ningning,” “A Very Special Love” and “Miss Granny,” among others.
Geronimo is expected to fly to Los Angeles, California, on March 6, 2024, to accept the award. The awarding ceremony will take place at the YouTube Theater and can be watched on Billboard’s website the day after the awards show. The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards will be hosted by actress Tracee Ellis-Ross.
