Isabel Oli revealed she nearly gave up on John Prats because he took so long to propose to her, as she stressed it is a shallow reason.

Sitting down on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Friday, Feb. 9, Oli said she stumbled upon a documentary that discussed signs about men who are ready to settle down, which she took to heart.

“Kung hindi pa daw mag-propose sa’yo ‘yung guy in a year, medyo mag-isip isip ka na daw. Nung time na ‘yon, parang two years na kami ni John,” she said.

“Sabi ko ‘Ay, two years na kami, hindi nakapasok dun sa sinabi nung—naku, naku.’ Tapos parang nandun ‘yung mga signs,” added the actress.

Oli thought that if Prats did not propose by the time she thought he should, she would break up with him.

“Kapag ito December this year, hindi pa siya mag-propose, parang ayoko na,” she said. “Parang forever single na lang talaga ako.”

The “Sugo” actress shared that during the time she was thinking about the proposal, Prats had already planned to propose to her, which he did two months before Oli’s “deadline.”

“‘Yun lang ‘yun. Ang babaw ng dahilan ko noon,” concluded the actress.

When asked their opinions on girls being the one to propose instead of the guy, the couple stressed it depends on the relationship, but for them personally, they like the traditional way.

“Kung saan magwowork,” said Oli. [But] for me lang, ako, gusto ko talaga siya ‘yung mag-propose.”

“Ako rin. Parang hindi ko ma-imagine na ano ‘yung take ko, ‘pag siya ‘yung nagyaya sa akin?” added Prats.

The couple also shared that even when this topic comes up in their conversations with friends, the common observation is that women are now more openly telling their male partners about their desire to get married.

“May mga kilala ako, nagpaparinig ‘yung babae, sila pa talaga,” he said. “Kwentuhan sa barkada, ‘Ewan ko ba dito, ito na lang hinihintay. Ako, ready na eh.’ So, I mean, it’s a good sign, like kung lalaki ka, ano pa nga bang hinihintay mo, ‘di ba?”

The two tied the knot in May 2015, and they have three children: Feather, Freedom and Forest.
