K-pop girl group sensation TWICE returned with their newest single “I GOT YOU” which perfectly encapsulates the beauty and power of female friendships.
On Friday, Feb. 2, the nine-member supergroup released the official music video of their pre-release track “I GOT YOU” which will be included in their 13th mini album, “With YOU-th,” which will come out on Feb. 23.
The music video showcases the nation’s girl group in their glory as they enjoy each other’s company and deliver the lyrics that serve as an ode to them having each other’s back through the lows and highs of their journey.
Almost 10 years into the industry, TWICE have surely gone through so many milestones and struggles together that have strengthened their friendship over the years. The genuine bond of the nine girls evidently shows in the way they treat and talk about each other.
“We have all become family. I cannot live without them. They mean so much to me, and we all have great energy together. I have learned so much, but especially how the value of encouraging one another can go such a long way,” said Jeongyeon in 2020 during an interview with ELLE Magazine.
The other members echoed the sentiments as they emphasized that they have grown closer to each other with each passing year, acknowledging the bond that they have built out of respect and enjoying each other’s presence.
“I have learned that respecting each other is important. When we moved in, I remember overhearing a member saying, ‘Let’s do this together.’ That really stuck with me because we’re all so close now and enjoy doing everything together,” shared Mina.
TWICE is undeniably one of the biggest girl groups today, with many awards and records under their name, and with a solid fanbase, ONCE, that continues to support the girls no matter what.
Despite all that, the Korean superstars are no exception to battles in mental health and the “cancel culture.” Jeongyeon and Mina have both taken hiatus in the past due to anxiety, and in 2023, member Chaeyoung has also been at the center of criticism due to an outfit mishap.
It’s not the first time that TWICE have dedicated a song for each other, but in “I GOT YOU,” the girls have proven that female friendships go a long way, that they conquer any tides, that they have the power to reach the sky, and that they can survive a lightning strike, as long as they will always have each other’s back.
