Enrique Gil once again reiterated that he and his longtime girlfriend Liza Soberano are “happy” together, saying they realized at some point that they “shouldn’t just be centered around each other.”
Gil denied that he and Soberano had broken up, when asked about their relationship status by entertainment journalist Gretchen Fullido during an interview, as seen on ABS-CBN News’ YouTube channel on Thursday, Feb. 1.
“Yeah, yeah. We’re happy! We’re just really busy,” he said, noting he and the actress decided to focus on their respective careers for now.
“I think we just realized in life that we shouldn’t just be centered around each other. We can do more and grow more with our paths and we can achieve more, and it will just make us better,” he added.
When asked how the actor would celebrate Valentine’s Day, he said his mother Bambi would be his date as Soberano is busy with promos for her Hollywood debut film “Lisa Frankenstein.”
“It’s gonna be my mom. Sadly, Liza is going to be in the US for ‘Lisa Frankenstein,’ but hopefully, if she gets back in time, she said she was gonna go and support me,” he said.
Gil also spoke about the cross-promotion that he and Soberano did for each other’s films. The actor did a “small video” to promote the Hollywood film, while the latter made a brief yet funny greeting in the trailer for his movie “I Am Not Big Bird.”
“I actually shot a small video for ‘Lisa Frankenstein’s’ promo and she also helped me. If you saw the trailer, she also said, ‘Hello Big Bird from Liza Soberano.’ It’s super funny,” he recalled.
Since last year, Gil and Soberano have been hounded by breakup speculations after the pair kept themselves busy with their respective careers. The latter’s former manager, showbiz writer Ogie Diaz, also claimed that they had broken up, but this was denied by the actor in July 2023.
The couple have been together since 2014 and are collectively known as the love team LizQuen. They worked together on many projects including “Alone Together,” “Forevermore,” “My Ex and Whys” and “Dolce Amore,” among others.
