Toni Gonzaga, Pepe Herrera’s ‘My Sassy Girl’ earns P5.2 million as it hits theaters
Toni Gonzaga and Pepe Herrera’s new film “My Sassy Girl” appeared to be off to a successful start as it earned P5.2 million in total opening sales. The movie premiered last Jan. 31, more than three years after wrapping up production.
Viva Films announced on Thursday night, Feb. 1, that the Gonzaga and Herrera romcom starrer crossed the P5.2 million mark in total opening gross sales.
“Ramdam na ramdan na ang #MySassyGirlPHFever! Maraming salamat po sa mga unang nanood ng #MySassyGirlPH dahil P5.2 million ang total opening day gross! We feel your love! This is the romcom movie you need ngayong season of love,” its post read.

“My Sassy Girl” is an adaptation of the South Korean film of the same name starring Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun, which premiered in 2001. Both went on to become successful actors in their own right.
Article continues after this advertisementThe original storyline tells the story of Gyeon-woo (Cha Tae-hyun) who gets involved with a woman (Jun Ji-hyun) who has a knack for embarrassing him at every moment. A sequel following the film’s events was released 15 years later.
In multiple interviews, Gonzaga said the Fifth Solomon-helmed film made sure to be faithful to the Korean material. She also disclosed in April 2021 that the movie is part of a franchise deal.
Aside from the Philippines, “My Sassy Girl” was also remade in several countries including Indonesia, United States and Nepal, just to name a few.
