Being part of the three highest-grossing Filipino films is a feat that Joross Gamboa is proud of — thus being dubbed as the “Box Office lucky charm” among moviegoers. These career milestones are what he considers a “blessing” in his career.

Gamboa is among the cast of the Philippines’ highest-grossing films “Rewind” with Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes; “Hello, Love, Goodbye” with Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards; and “The Hows of Us” with Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

The “Star Circle Quest” alum, however, said he chooses to believe that fate allowed him to be part of these successful films in an interview with CNN Philippines’ New Day.

“Naniniwala ako sa blessed. I’m blessed to be part of these movies. Actually, nagkataon lang siguro na naging parte ako ng magagandang pelikula na tinangkilik ng mga tao (I believe that I’m blessed. I’m blessed to be part of these movies. It just so happened that I was part of beautiful films that people supported),” he said.

In all three films, Gamboa’s roles serve as a “breather” from the dramatic plots, characterized by his quick-witted punch lines. But Gamboa reiterated that he’s not a “lucky charm,”as others are wont to call him; it’s just his natural sense of humor that played a role in his casting.

“Hindi ako swerte. Hindi ako nagpa-swerte ng movie. Mas nakikita ko na blessed ako na mapasama sa mga movies na ‘to,” he said. “Nagamit ko ‘yung pagiging kalog ko sa acting [but showbiz] is just work for me. It is my passion to act and touch people’s lives but at the same time, kailangan kong i-let go ang sarili ko because my priority is my family.”

(I’m not lucky. I’m not a movie’s lucky charm. I opt to see this as a blessing to be part of these movies. I use my natural sense of humor in acting but showbiz is just work for me. It is my passion to act and touch people’s lives but at the same time, I have to let go because my priority is my family.)

During the interview, the actor admitted that he doesn’t have an ideal character to take in the future as he’s dabbling in behind-the-scenes work as a screenplay writer.

“Kung may gusto man [akong role], ako na lang ang magsusulat. Ayokong magsulat para sa artista. Gusto kong magsulat nang walang [artista in mind] then ipapa-audition kung sino ang bagay. It’s about the whole process,” he said.

(If I want to take on a certain role, I would rather write it for myself. I don’t want to write for a certain actor. I want to write movies without an actor in mind, and then ask them to audition for them. It’s about the whole process.)

Aside from the aforementioned films, Gamboa is also included in the “A Very Special Love” trilogy with John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo with all three movies performing well at the Box Office.
