Kris Bernal reveals she was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety
Kris Bernal shared her struggles as a first-time mom, noting there’s a new part of herself that she can’t recognize and that she was diagnosed with postpartum anxiety.
Sitting down on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Wednesday, Jan. 23, the actress turned emotional as she revealed that she had a difficult time adjusting to motherhood and that she is still in the process of learning this new aspect of her life.
“Nahirapan lang ako kasi feel ko parang bagong tao ako. I could no longer recognize my old self. The things that I used to love, wala na. I’m loving myself now pero siguro may hinahanap pako sa dati kong sarili,” she opened up.
“Nasa phase pa ako na dinidiscover ko pa lang ‘yung bagong ako. Nagugulat pa rin ako sa mga ginagawa ko ngayon na kaya ko pala ‘to, ganito pala ‘to. It’s not easy. Nagkaroon ako ng postpartum anxiety, I was diagnosed kasi nahirapan talaga ako mag-adjust,” added the actress.
Bernal noted that she is in the process of recovery and that sharing her journey doesn’t diminish the fact that being a mother is still the best thing that has happened to her.

Okay naman because shinashare ko sa inyo na nahihirapan ako, it doesn’t mean na I’m not grateful or hindi ko gusto itong journey ko. Ito ‘yung pinaka magandang nangyari sa buhay ko pero hindi natin maiiwasan na may mga pinagdaanan na postpartum,” she said.

“Magsuklay, kumain, maligo. ‘Yung skincare ko wala na, nakalimutan ko na, and I was cesarean, grabe ‘yung pain, ‘yung recovery mo ang tagal. Nahirapan talaga ako. Everything stopped. I stopped vlogging, ‘yung social media ko wala ka na halos makita kasi nagbago talaga ‘yung mundo ko,” the actress shared.
Despite the struggles, the “StarStruck” alumna said that seeing her daughter is the priceless pay-off moment amid the sacrifices.
“Yung highs syempre ‘yung baby ko kahit mahirap kahit walang tulog ‘yung alam mong nanjan, may baby ka, ‘yung blessed ka with a child kasi not everyone nabebless ng ganito kaya very thankful talaga ako,” said Bernal.
