One of the highlights of the Asia Artist Awards (AAA) 2023 last December was Melai Cantiveros’ funny remarks during the interview portion and her acceptance speech, which caught the attention of Korean stars such as Kim Seon-ho and NewJeans.

Among her hilarious remarks included her interview with IVE’s Jang Won-young who asked her thoughts about being part of the event. She said in response: “Attending to [sic] AAA is a very honor. I feel like I am the first honor [sic], a valedictorian in attending an AAA. So the best, prestigious award [sic]. I cannot believe this happening!”

“Grabe yung kaba ko. Mabuti na lang nilabanan ko (I was very nervous. It’s a good thing I was able to move forward from it),” she was quoted as saying.

“Mabuti na lang tumawa yung mga tao, dahil kung hindi sila tumawa… I think, I’m sorry, I’m signing off. Charing! Mapagtagumpayan ko lang ito, hindi lang ako mahimatay, okay na ako,” she told the magazine. (It’s a good thing people laughed. Because if they didn’t, I think, I’m sorry. I’m signing off. Just kidding! As long as I can pull this off well, I won’t faint, I’m okay with it.)

Cantiveros also noted that she lived a more simple life before skyrocketing to fame. But the thought of making people laugh is what convinced her of her place in showbiz.
