Bea Alonzo, who was in Japan with her fiancé Dominic Roque when it was hit by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake on New Year’s Day, expressed concern and extended prayers for those affected by the calamity.

“I heard that there was an earthquake here in Japan yesterday, praying for everyone affected and hoping that there won’t be any aftershocks,” she said via her Instagram page on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

It was not immediately known if the couple felt the quake, although earlier posts from them indicate that they were in Hokkaido, which is more than 500 miles from the epicenter in Ishikawa Prefecture.

Alonzo also welcomed the New Year in her post by showing a video of herself skiing in the snowy landscape of Niseko.

“Just like skiing, may we learn to embrace the unknown, may it be gentle slopes or unfavorable terrains. Whenever we fall, remember that we can always get up and power through, no matter the obstacle,” she wrote.

The New Year’s Day earthquake in Japan has killed at least 77 people, as per latest record. According to officials of the cities hit by the quake, more than 33,000 people have evacuated from their homes and about 100,000 houses have no water supply.
