Days after welcoming the New Year, Michael V. is in grief as his makeup artist, who had been with him for over 25 years, died.
“Madalas n’yo ’kong makita na naka-character sa mga shows, print ads at TV Commercials na ginagawa ko. All this time, ang makeup artist at hairstylist ko is this wonderful human being named Mario Bernardino or ‘MARIA’ for short,” Michael said on his Instagram page on Wednesday, Jan. 3, showing their photos together.
(You have always seen me in character during shows, print ads and TV commercials. All this time, my makeup artist and hairstylist is this wonderful human being named Mario Bernardino or “MARIA” for short.)

“Matagal na kaming magka-tandem ni Maria; more than 25 years na (Maria and I had been a tandem for over 25 years). When I look my best and when I look like someone else, Maria has always been behind those looks,” he added.
The comedian expressed profound sadness and longing for Maria, whom he regards as his “dear friend.”
“Marami kaming nagmamahal at malulungkot sa industriya ngayong wala ka na (Many of us who love you are sad now that you’re gone). May you rest in peace,” Michael said.
Among those who extended their condolences to “the artist behind the artist” were Ogie Alcasid, Manilyn Reynes and Jackie Lou Blanco.
