Derrick Monasterio claps back at bashers calling him gay
Derrick Monasterio put an end to rumors that he is gay by answering with a resounding ‘No’ and giving a blunt message to people who’re using gay as an insult.
In an episode on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the Kapuso hunk said that he is bothered by the way people use the gay remark as an insult, knowing that there is nothing wrong with being part of the LGBTQ+ community.
“Mas nabobother ako sa fact na bakit nila ginagamit na pang-asar ang pagiging bakla, wala naman masama doon. Siguro kailangan mas maging open minded pa ang mga tao ngayon, na hindi okay na gagamitin mo pang-asar ang pagiging bakla, pagiging mataba, pagiging pangit, kasi there’s no such things, illusion lang ‘yan ng tao.” he stressed.
(I get bothered by the fact that people are using gay remarks as an insult; there’s nothing wrong with being gay. I guess people should be more open-minded, that it is not okay to use gay, weight, or physical appearance as insults because there’s no such thing; it’s all just an illusion.)
Meanwhile, the actor’s girlfriend and on-screen partner, Elle Villanueva, justified the claims by explaining that Monasterio grew up in an industry where gay people are around, which affected his actions.

Then I realized lumaki lang siya sa industry na kasama puro gay, so parang nasanay lang siya sa pananalita niya, sa actions niya, na ganon.” she said.

Then I realized he just grew up in an industry where gay people are present, so it affected his way of speaking, his actions, etc.)
Villanueva also shared the time that she told her mother that Monasterio was gay just so she would be allowed to hang out with him because her parents are strict, but eventually they told her mother the truth.
“And then there was a time, only child po kasi ako, so strict ang mommy ko so para payagan ako na kasama si Derrick, sinabi ko kay mommy, ‘Mommy, bakla siya. You don’t have to worry.’ pero ngayon alam na po niya. So nagulat na lang po siya, sinusundo si Elle sa Baguio, bakla, paano nangyari ‘yon?” shared the actress.
(There was a time, because I’m an only child and my mother is strict, so in order for them to allow me to hang out with Derrick, I told my mom, ‘Mom, he is gay. You don’t have to worry.’ But now, she already knows that Derrick is not gay. She was surprised because Derrick is fetching me from Baguio, so how could he be gay?)
