In 2012, Ara Mina had a public feud with her half-sister Cristine Reyes, which led Mina to sue Reyes in court. After a decade, Mina admitted that she did that to teach her little sister a lesson.
Sitting down on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Mina said that she sued her sister for libel and grave coercion out of her tough love for her, noting that they are siblings and their issues should not have been publicized.
“I think ginawa ko lang, Tito Boy, tough love. Because I’m the ate, I want to teach her a lesson na hindi tama ‘yun, hindi dapat tayo nag-aaway.” affirmed Mina.
(I think I only did that out of tough love because I’m the older sister; I want to teach her a lesson that what she did was not okay and we should not have been fighting over it.)
“If we have something na kailangan pag-usapan dapat hindi na nalabas sa media, dapat inside na lang, kasi at the end of the day magkapatid pa rin kami. Blood is thicker than water,” she added.
(If we have something not okay between us, it should not have reached the media; it should have stayed privately because, at the end of the day, we are sisters and blood is thicker than water.)
The 44-year-old actress said that she had no intention to put her sister in jail. Even if she sued her, it was not on her plans to continue the case.
“Of course, hindi ko naman gugustuhin na makulong ‘yung kapatid ko or something. It’s just, ano lang ‘yun, to teach her a lesson lang pero hindi ko itutuloy ‘yun,” said Mina.
(Of course, I don’t want my sister to be put in jail or something. What I did was just to teach her a lesson, but I had no intention to continue the case against her.)
The former ‘That’s Entertainment’ host shared that they were able to fix their rift after Reyes went to her and asked for amends: “Lumapit po siya sa akin, nag-sorry po siya nun,” (She came to me and said sorry.)
To this day, the half-sisters are on good terms, and Mina said that she is happy that someone (her boyfriend, actor Marco Gumabao) is looking after Reyes and making her happy.
