Geoff Eigenmann auditioned for a role in the pre-colonial period TV drama “Amaya” but was rejected because he was “too mestizo” for the part.

But his mother Gina Alajar, brother Ryan Eigenmann and cousin Sid Lucero landed roles in the series.

“I’d [still] love to do something like ‘Amaya’ someday,” said Geoff, who recently wrapped up work on the GMA 7 fantasy series “Magic Palayok” with on- and off-screen partner Carla Abellana.

The fantasy genre was challenging, the actor noted, because they had to make use of their imagination, acting opposite an inanimate clay pot. He had a blast, Geoff said, but he wants to try other genres.

He may get his wish sooner than later, as the network is considering him for two projects, a reality show and a drama series. “I’m more inclined to do a reality show,” he said. “I’m a big fan of the format.”

Open to indies

He promised not to turn nasty. “I can prove that you can play a game honorably and still win — you don’t have to scheme or step on other people,” he insisted.

Geoff is also open to acting in indie films. “I’ve always been interested. If it’s the right script, if it’s a good story… I’m willing to take risks.” Even if he doesn’t get paid, he said, “I’d be more than happy to do it.”

In fact, he has done cameos in indie movies, like Joel Ruiz’s “Baby Angelo” and Sigfried Barros Sanchez’s “Mga Anak ni Brocka.”

Of course, he’s raring to share the big screen with Carla, too. “I’m proud of Carla,” he said of his girlfriend, who was proclaimed best new actress at the Star Awards for Movies. “In such a short time, she learned and achieved so much. She is surviving this tough business.”

They’re able to balance their professional and personal affairs, Geoff said. “We don’t keep secrets from each other. We don’t mind intrigues. We talk things through when there’s a problem.”
