SB19’s Josh open to ‘psycho’ roles as acting career beckons

Josh Cullen Santos of SB19 admitted that he is “considering” an acting career and that he wants to portray a “psycho” role, but insisted that performing will always be his top priority.
During a music video launch of his single “Get Right,” Josh revealed that he received offers to be an actor from the “biggest production companies” but performing will always be first.
“Marami nang nago-offer sa’kin, even before. Even from the biggest production companies. Pero I always choose to perform, and siyempre sa schedules, mahirap (I received a lot of offers, even before. Even from the biggest production companies. But I always choose to perform. And of course, with our schedules, it’s hard),” he said. “[But] right now, I’m considering having an acting career.”
Noting that acting is part of his job as an artist, the SB19 member said it’s a “good thing to explore” and if he has the chance, he wants to take on a “psycho” role.
“Dati hindi ko naman na-consider na maging artista, pero I think being an artist, I guess kasama ‘yun,” he said. “‘Yung role, gusto ko talagang maging psycho. Something like that. Medyo uncommon. Kasi feeling ko, I’ll do good in those types of roles since I love playing horror games and I love watching thriller movies.”

Apart from SB19’s success as a group, the members keep themselves busy with their respective solo activities. When asked about the possibility of being a “The Voice Generations” coach like his bandmate Stell, Josh said he would “do [his] best” but admitted that Pablo or Ken suit the role more.
“Of course it’s okay. But if I will be the coach, I’ll do my best of course. But I feel like I should give it to someone else like Pablo or Ken,” he said. “For me, it’s not my thing. Magaling ako magturo or mag-judge ng skills ng tao and talent (I’m good at teaching and judging someone’s skills and talent), but if given the chance I’ll do it. Maybe, I’ll ask my members first.”
Solo journey
“Get Right” marks Josh’s fourth single as a solo artist after “Wild Tonight,” “Pakiusap Lang,” and “Sofa (Remix)” which was done with his cousins Ocho, The Bullet and Carrot Mayor.
“Napansin ko na sobrang hilig ko sa EDM (I noticed that I’m a huge fan of the EDM genre),” he said, referring to electronic dance music when talking about his latest song. “‘Get Right’ is one of the hardest EDM pop songs you’ll ever hear nowadays, especially in the Philippines.”
His newest single is meant to be a “declaration” of the SB19 member’s return as a solo artist, which he wrote and produced with Ocho, The Bullet and No Rome. “With this song, I focused on how EDM [the song] is.”
“It’s a declaration of my return [in my] solo journey because I always take the chance when we’re not doing something [as a group],” he continued. “It’s a fusion of the culture between the States and Philippines. Shoutout to my cousin Ocho, The Bullet for helping me pull it off. With the production, siya rin ang kasama ko (he’s with me) during these times.”
With a teasing smile, Josh said he’s eyeing to release his first EP “soon” — possibly sometime in the first quarter of next year.
“Pero we’ll see. Malay natin, hindi lang isang EP (But we’ll see. You never know, there may be more than one EP),” he added.
