As the first day of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) approaches, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) officially announced the film ratings for all 10 participating movies for the annual film festival.
The MTRCB aims to guide the viewers in selecting films suitable for their respective age groups as they enjoy the entries for this holiday season. The classification board released three categories for the 10 entries: G for general audience, PG for parental guidance, and R-13 for restricted 13.
Entries falling under General Audience, or rating G, given that they are suitable for all ages are “Family of Two (A Mother and Son Story)” by Cineko Production Inc. and “Penduko” by Viva Communications Inc.
Film entries with Parental Guidance, or PG rating, that viewers below thirteen (13) years old must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult upon viewing are “Becky and Badette” (The Ideafirst Company Inc.), “Broken Hearts Trip” (Smart Films Production OPC), “Firefly” (GMA Network, Inc.), “Gomburza” (Cignal TV Inc.), “Rewind” (ABS-CBN Films Production Inc., Star Cinema), and “When I Met You in Tokyo” (JG Productions Inc.).
“Kampon” (Quantum Films Inc.) and “Mallari” (Mentorque Events Management Service) fall on the R-13 (restricted-13) as they may contain themes, language, violence, nudity, sex, horror, and drugs that may not be suitable for children below thirteen (13) years old.
MTRCB Chairperson Lala Sotto urges the nation to support the film festival as this 49th edition continues to promote the magic of cinema and encourage family bonding and cultural appreciation.
“We encourage everyone to support the MMFF and experience the magic of cinema that promotes family bonding and cultural appreciation. MMFF is a celebration best experienced with family and friends. Sama-sama, manumbalik po tayo sa sinehan tungo sa Responsableng Panonood (Let’s all come together and go back to the cinemas towards responsible viewership),” said Sotto.
This year’s Parade of Stars will take place on Dec. 16, and will journey through the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela. Previously, the MMFF parade took the route of Rotunda Circle in Manila and ends in Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.
The MMFF 2023 will run from December 25 to January 7, 2024 in more than 100 cinemas nationwide.
