Joey de Leon, one-third of TVJ, has nothing but gratitude after the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) dismissed TAPE Inc.’s appeal on the Eat Bulaga trademark application he had filed.
De Leon, who applied the Eat Bulaga trademark under Class 41 for entertainment services, celebrated the feat by showing a photo of himself beside the original “Eat Bulaga” logo, via his Instagram page on Saturday, Dec. 9.
“From (Student) CANTEEN to (Tito’s) KITCHEN…burrrp! Thanks!” he said, referring to their TV show prior to “Eat Bulaga” and to Tito Sotto’s kitchen where they made the EB title.
Tito, Vic and De Leon’s legal counsel, Enrique “Buko” dela Cruz Jr., earlier said that “since the opposition has been dismissed and the appeal denied, the Eat Bulaga trademark is deemed registered in the name of Joey.”
“We are just waiting for the formal confirmation from the IPO,” Dela Cruz added.

Aside from the trademark application win, De Leon highlighted in another post the cancellation of TAPE’s trademark registration, which is a separate victory for TVJ.
De Leon also appeared to have taken a swipe at the other party as he wrote: “Well, I don’t expect respect from RES-FAKE!”
Since the IPO released its Dec. 4 ruling canceling TAPE’s trademark registration, the comedic trio as well as their fellow original Dabarkads have been using the full title “Eat Bulaga” in their theme song on “E.A.T.”
TAPE’s camp said it will appeal the cancellation of trademark registration, and that it will continue using the Eat Bulaga title pending appeal.
