Hollywood may seem all rainbows and cupcakes to people who have never been part of it, but celebrities who have tasted both the glamor and horror of being in the industry, like Angelina Jolie, believe otherwise.

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, the 48-year-old actress said she was never impressed with Hollywood, given how much time she spent there. She also noted how she wouldn’t allow herself to be in this career if she joined in this era.

“I wouldn’t be an actress today. When I was starting, it wasn’t as much of an expectation to be as public and to share so much. I grew up around Hollywood, but I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important,” said the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand.

The “Girl Interrupted” star also opened up about her initial plans to move out of LA, leave Hollywood behind, and relocate to Cambodia, especially after her divorce from long-term partner Brad Pitt.

“It’s part of what happened after my divorce. I lost the ability to live and travel freely. I will move when I can. I grew up in quite a shallow place. Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity,” she said.

Maleficent 3

After gracing the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Thena in “Eternals,” the Hollywood star is set to reprise one of her iconic roles after she confirmed that a third installment of Maleficent is in the works.

In the same interview, Jolie said Maleficent 3 is set to come four years after the sequel, and although she did not disclose any bits of the storyline, she teased a potential return of some of the original cast.

“Maleficent” (2014) and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” (2019) are retellings of Sleeping Beauty told from the perspective of the evil fairy Maleficent. The films also starred Elle Fanning, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Imelda Staunton, and Michelle Pfeiffer.
