Seventeen, NewJeans win big at 2023 MAMA Awards

This year proved to be a historic one for Seventeen and NewJeans as they led the roster of winners at the 2023 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) as they bagged Album of the Year and Group of the Year, respectively, which was held at the Tokyo Dome in Japan on Nov. 28 to 29.

Seventeen is closing its jampacked year on a high with their 10th mini album “FML” bringing one of the biggest awards of the night. The six-track EP includes the songs “F*ck My Life,” “Super,” “Fire” by Hiphop Team (S.Coups, Vernon, Wonwoo, Mingyu), “I Don’t Understand but I Luv U” by Performance Team (Hoshi, Jun, The8, Dino), “Dust” by Vocal Team (Woozi, Jeonghan, Joshua, DK, Seungkwan), and “April Shower.”

Meanwhile, NewJeans made history as the first girl group to bag the Artist of the Year award since Girls’ Generation in 2011. The five-piece act also brought home the Song of the Year award with their smash hit “Ditto.”

The nominees of the 2023 MAMA Awards include songs and albums that were released from Oct. 22, 2022 to Sept. 30, 2023. The winners will be decided based on digital sales, record sales, music video view counts, online voting, and a panel of judges — based on the award that will be given out.
