Patience pays off for Jon Lucas

When Jon Lucas transferred to GMA 7 in 2019, his first order of business was to steady the ship and steer his career back on track.

Jon, a former member of the male dance group Hashtags, was admittedly overwhelmed by show biz. He was distracted, at one point, and felt that he was unable to make the most of the opportunities that came his way.

He considers his stay in the Kapuso network as an opportunity to start anew. That’s why big or small projects, Jon sees to it that he maintains laser-like focus and gives his best.

And now, after four years of playing supporting characters and making guest appearances in various shows, Jon finally landed what he considers his career’s biggest break yet—the main villain role in the ongoing primetime series “Black Rider.”

‘Biggest role’

“It’s the biggest role I have gotten since moving to GMA 7 and I’m thankful they thought of me,” Jon told the Inquirer.

“I have been getting regular jobs and guestings since moving here. But it wasn’t until now that I have finally gotten a prominent role in a regular soap—and it’s on primetime, too,” added the actor, who appeared in such shows as “Voltes V: Legacy,” “First Yaya” and “Descendants of the Sun.”

In GMA Public Affairs’ “Black Rider,” Jon plays Calvin Magallanes, the son of the leader of the syndicate Golden Scorpion and nemesis to the hero Elias Guerrero (Ruru Madrid). “He’s bad to the bone. He will do everything in his power to hurt Elias and prove to the Golden Scorpion leader that he can follow in his footsteps and is worthy of being next in line,” he said.

The role is something new to Jon, so he couldn’t help but feel worried at first. “I was a bit nervous because this is my first time playing a full-blown villain,” he said.

If there’s one thing Jon learned from his show biz journey so far, it’s that everything happens at the right time. “It took a while. But I think this is what this industry teaches us. Patagalan, pagalingan. And you do this until your time comes, until the good roles and the projects you have been yearning for finally come,” he said.
