Seasoned GMA reporter Emil Sumangil is finally taking center as one of the permanent anchors of the Kapuso network’s flagship news program, “24 Oras.”
On Monday, November 20, GMA Network and Sumangil made it official after the latter signed the contract as main anchor of the award-winning primetime news broadcast. The contract signing was held at the Studio 5 of the network.
With 20 years of investigative journalism experience under his belt, Sumangil will take on the task left by original “24 Oras” anchor Mike Enriquez, who died of a lingering illness last August.
Sumangil took to his personal Instagram account to express his gratitude towards the network and its integrated news division, saying that giving him the “24 Oras” anchoring duty is the best gift he could ever receive days before his birthday.
“Maraming salamat sa pamunuan ng GMA Network at sa bumubuo ng GMA Integrated News. Sa tiwala na inyong pinagkaluob, susuklian ko po ng mas mahusay at tapat na pagtupad sa aking tungkulin,” wrote the anchor.
Sumangil began his career as in the broadcast industry as a production assistant and researcher at GMA’s erstwhile rival ABS-CBN News before transferring to the Timog-based network as a segment producer and writer for its Public Affairs programs.
Aside from his field reports focusing on crime beats, Sumangil previously headlined the GMA News TV bulletin, QRT: Quick Response Team, co-hosted Dapat Alam Mo! and anchored his solo program, Resibo: Walang Lusot Ang May Atraso.
Sumangil will be sharing the podium with the two other original “24 Oras” anchors, Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales as they become bearers of the news and current events every evening.
