One of the most grueling portions of the Miss Universe pageant is the final question-and-answer (Q&A) portion where the three finalists have one chance to show why they are worthy to be crowned.

In the final stage of Miss Universe 2023, recently-crowned titleholder Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, Thailand’s Anntonia Porsild, and Australia’s Moraya Wilson Victoria answered the same question: “If you could live one year in another woman’s shoes, who would you choose, and why?”

Here are their answers below:

Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, Miss Universe 2023

“I would choose Mary Wollstonecraft because she opened the gap and gave an opportunity to many women. And what I would do, I would want the income gap [to] open up so that women could work in an area that they choose to work in because there are no limitations for women; that was in 1750. Now, in 2023, we are making history.”

Anntonia Porsild of Thailand, first runner-up

“I will choose Malala Yousafzai because I know the struggles that she had to deal with in order to get to where she is today. She had to fight for women’s education and fight for all women to stand strong, be the change and lead by example. If I could choose anyone, that would be her.”

Moraya Wilson Victoria of Australia, second runner-up

“I would live my mother’s year in her birth year because she’s a very strong woman. She’s tough, she taught me how to work hard, she taught me how to be brave [and] how to be strong, and I’m forever grateful for those lessons that she taught me.”
