Jodi, Gabbi solidify ‘connection, trust’ during filming of ‘Unbreak My Heart’
Despite the complicated relationship between their characters in “Unbreak My Heart,” Gabbi Garcia is grateful to find a friend whom she deeply connected with in Jodi Sta. Maria.
Garcia gushed about her friendship with Sta. Maria during the finale press conference of the ABS-CBN-GMA drama, saying they built a deep “connection and trust” with each other.
“The connection that we built here through this show even during behind-the-scenes was different. We jibed with each other. The connection, trust, and love that we built with each other was different,” she said.
The Kapuso star also pointed out that her bond with Sta. Maria is not for show, and it evolved more than just a taping relationship. “It has gone beyond that, and it’s rare to find that in this industry. I really treasure and value our friendship.”
“I appreciate that [Jodi Sta. Maria] always tells me that she is happy to have worked with me because I’m serious with my craft. Because of those compliments, I get inspired to do better,” she continued.

Meanwhile, Sta. Maria revealed that she and Garcia “shared one dressing room” which made her look forward to their bonding moments once the cameras were off.
“I’ve had a lot of scenes with Gabbi and I can really say na naging close kami (that we became close),” she said. “I just respect this lady so much. Nakikita ko sa kanya ‘yung hunger for growth in her craft (I see her hunger for growth in her craft). It makes me happy to hear that from younger stars. It’s a good experience.”
Sta. Maria and Garcia, who star as mother and daughter Rose and Xandra, admitted that their relationship in the series underwent lots of ups and downs. But for the Kapamilya stars, it was their “brokenness” that made it beautiful.
“I think what’s beautiful about Rose and Xandra’s story is that something has to break first before it becomes beautiful. It’s like a broken vase, but when you put the pieces back together, it has a new value, meaning, and story,” she said.
“And for Rose, there’s no important person in the world except Xandra,” Sta. Maria further explained, while hinting on her character’s fate in the drama. “Her entire life until her last breath, it’s only fixed on Xandra. There’s no love greater than a mother for her child.”

For her part, Garcia admitted that working on “Unbreak My Heart” made her realize how much a mother is willing to sacrifice and go through just to make her children happy. “Grabe ang pagmamahal ng isang ina (a mother’s love is so great).”
“You can never ever or you have no right to disrespect your parents, especially your mom. It’s because you don’t know how hard it is, how much sacrifices your parents did for you and we should value that as their children,” she added.
The ABS-CBN-GMA series also stars Joshua Garcia, Richard Yap, Sunshine Cruz, Laurice Guillen, Eula Valdez, Jeremiah Lisbo, and Nikki Valdez, just to name a few.
