Seo Soojin, a former member of K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE, will make her solo debut within this year after signing with a new label.

Her return to the entertainment industry was first reported by Korean media outlet SpoTV News on Monday, Oct. 16, where she’s said to be “quietly preparing for her solo comeback.” Meanwhile, another report from News1 said she signed a contract with newly-founded label BRD Communications.

Soojin’s upcoming comeback was then confirmed by BRD to Xportsnews on the same day, which revealed that she’s “planning to release her solo album within this year.”

Following the reports, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their excitement about the singer’s return to K-pop after a two-year hiatus.

Soojin previously debuted as the main dancer, vocalist, and rapper of (G)I-DLE in May 2018. She then faced allegations of school violence and bullying, which resulted in her leaving the group and former label Cube Entertainment in August 2021.

In September 2022, a report from KoreaJoongAngDaily said the singer said through her legal representative that she was “involved in school bullying” and was “not among the “most diligent of students,” but denied that she took part in any form of “severe violence, abuse or exploitation, then I would have been punished.”

She then opened her personal Instagram account in June 2023, which prompted fans to speculate about her solo debut.

Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE has since been promoting as a five-piece act, composed of members Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi, and Shuhua. The girl group released their first English EP “Heat” earlier this month. EDV
