Since exiting the Side A band in 2015 to pursue a solo career, former lead vocalist Joey Generoso has gone on to form a new band and make new music. He now goes by Joey G and has been holding concerts in the country as well as outside. His most recent foreign concert was held in Adelaide, Australia, last August, but he is also often booked to perform in the events of different local groups.

Joey has also become an influencer of sorts, partnering with a skin clinic, a chiropractor, and even a brand of barbecue grills—as seen on his official Facebook page.

On Nov. 5, he will perform at New Frontier Theater in Araneta Center, Cubao. “Joey G: Side Ko Lang” is organized by concert production outfit Random Minds and is the second in their Random Hits Live series.

FEATURED STORIES

“Our first installment featured Korean group Dreamcatcher, so we figured it was only natural that we also celebrate our very own legendary talents like Joey G,” said Allan Villegas of Random Minds.

Classics

Longtime followers can look forward to Joey performing songs from Side A’s oeuvre like “Forevermore,” “So Many Questions,” “Set You Free” and “Hold On,” as well as his recent releases like “Deep Inside” and “Letting You Go.”

On his FB page, Joey has been posting regularly, inviting people to buy tickets to the concert.

“I’m excited to share a new set of songs for the concert,” he told us in an email interview. “A large part of those will definitely be allocated to the classics that most fans know and love.”

His distinct voice that can be plaintive or jubilant continues to resonate with viewers of all ages. He surmised that “the quality and meaning of these songs” are what make them favorites.

Songs from the heart

“Music has always been able to reach people despite our differences. In addition, they are songs that came from the hearts of the composers. They are real emotions that echo other people’s feelings too, especially with the song ‘Forevermore’ that was written for Joey Benin’s wife, Bing.” Benin was Side A’s bassist for two decades.

This early, there are already plans to bring “Side Ko Lang” to other parts of the country. as well as to the United States.

“Although restaging it wasn’t included in the initial plan, we are happy to receive a lot of interest this early. As we continue brainstorming on how I want the show to be, Allan and I are thrilled at the thought of bringing the show to more places like Davao and Cebu … the East and West Coast in the US.”

Joey will be joined by singer Juris, who has prepared a playlist that the audience is likely to sing along to and appreciate.

“Random Hits Live” is a series of shows featuring local and international acts where audiences can enjoy hit songs and new music from their favorite artists,” said Random Minds’ Villegas.
