This year’s edition of the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is a mark of K-pop’s growing dominance in the global music scene as BTS’ Jungkook, Blackpink, Stray Kids, and Tomorrow X Together (TXT) were among the artists who emerged as the event’s biggest winners

Held at Newark’s Prudential Center on Wednesday, Sept. 13 (Philippine time), the K-pop acts joined the likes of industry greats such as Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and Shakira who walked away with their own Moon Man trophies.

Jungkook brought home his first VMA for Song of the Summer with his smash hit “Seven,” while Blackpink bagged two awards namely: Group of the Year and Best Choreography with “Pink Venom.” Both acts, however, were absent at the event.

The VMAs was an unforgettable night for first-timer Stray Kids as they won the Best K-pop award, and performed their song “S-Class” in their signature explosive flair.

Formed under JYP Entertainment, the boy group consists of members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N.

Another K-pop act who made a fiery VMAs debut was fellow fourth-generation group TXT who performed their new song “Back for More” with Anitta.

The five-member unit also walked away with the PUSH Performance of the Year award with their song “Sugar Rush Ride,” which is part of their fifth EP “The Name Chapter: Temptation.”

Another unforgettable moment for the group was giving a standing ovation for Stray Kids after they were called onstage to receive their Best K-pop award, as seen in a video captured by Viral Takes on Twitter.

The Big Hit Music group is composed of five members, namely, Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai. EDV
