Tessie Tomas underscored the importance of humility in show business even as she pointed out how some young celebrities do not seem to make an effort to approach veteran actors.

The seasoned actress spoke about this after she was asked about her experience working with younger stars, in an interview vlog on comedian Ogie Diaz’s YouTube channel on Thursday, Aug. 24.

“Actually, hindi sila (younger stars) masyadong lumalapit sa amin,” she disclosed, then went on to talk about her admiration for her “Dirty Linen” co-stars Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin. (Actually, younger stars do not seem to approach us often.)

“Pero ako, sobrang respeto ko kay Francine and Seth. Naging favorite ko sila kasi nag-vlog ako about them [and] naintindihan ko ang kanilang buhay,” Tomas continued. (But I have so much respect for Francine and Seth. They became my favorites after I did a vlog about them and understood what they had been through.)

Tomas recalled reminding the pair that ‘nobody stays on top forever’ and telling them, “Wag kayong makakalimot ng pinanggalingan niyo tsaka ‘wag kayong magpapadala sa yabang, because fame is so impermanent.”

(Do not forget your roots and do not let arrogance take control of yourselves, because fame is so impermanent.)

When asked what learnings she would impart to this generation’s stars for them to achieve longevity in show business, Tomas stressed, “Kailangan talaga passionate ka sa trabaho mo at alagaan mo.” (You really need to be passionate about your work and take care of it.)

“Ang katanyagan ay hindi forever. Ang katanyagan ay aabutin ng ilang taon kaya hindi dapat pumasok sa ulo mo ‘yon,” she stated. “Stay humble, stay grounded and above it all, always thank Him dahil ang talent mo ay hindi nanggaling sa’yo [kundi] nanggaling sa Kanya.”

(Fame is not forever. It would last for years, but you should not let it get into your head. Stay humble, stay grounded and above it all, always thank Him because your talent came from Him.)

Tomas portrayed the character of Doña Cielo in “Dirty Linen,” which aired its final episode on Friday, Aug. 25. Aside from Tomas, Diaz and Fedelin, other cast members include Janine Gutierrez, Zanjoe Marudo, John Arcilla, Epy Quizon and Angel Aquino.  /ra
