MANILA, Philippines — The Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) station in Quezon City currently known as Roosevelt will be renamed FPJ station on August 20, the birth anniversary of the late Fernando Poe Jr.
The renaming follows RA 11608, signed by former President Rodrigo Duterte on December 10, 2022. This act renames Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City to FPJ Avenue in honor of the late National Artist Fernando Poe Jr.
“I hope people remember FPJ whenever they board this train. Public service has always been in FPJ’s heart. Giving commuters a safe and comfortable ride is a way of keeping his legacy alive,” Senator Grace Poe said.
Poe will head the renaming ceremony on Sunday. Joining her will be former Senate President Tito Sotto III and Senator Lito Lapid, the law’s author.
Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Light Rail Management Corporation President and CEO Juan Alfonso, and other company officials will also attend the event.
