Award-winning actress Angie Ferro dies at 86
Award-winning actress Angie Ferro died Thursday, Aug. 17, at the age of 86, her family and friends in the showbiz industry confirmed.
According to a statement by Ferro’s granddaughter Lorelie Futol to ABS-CBN, the “Lola Igna” actress passed away on Thursday afternoon. Further details on her death and wake have yet to be disclosed as of this writing.
Screenwriter Suzette Doctolero as well as Ferro’s protégé, Noel Miralles, were among those who confirmed the veteran actress’ passing by paying tribute to her through their respective Facebook pages.
“Patay na si Uray Hilway ng ‘Amaya’ at Lola Igna,” Doctolero said, referring to some of Ferro’s screen roles. “My teacher, a friend, ina ng aming teatro (mother of our theater). Rest in Peace, BB. Angie Ferro.”
Miralles shared the screenwriter’s post with the caption: “Paalam aming Maestra.” (Farewell, our teacher.)

Ferro reportedly suffered a stroke and was confined in an intensive care unit in 2022.
Ferro won the 1979 FAMAS best supporting actress award for her movie “Pagputi ng Uwak… Pag-itim ng Tagak.” She also earned a Gawad ng Urian best actress nomination, as well as the best actress honor at the 2019 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino for her performance in “Lola Igna.”
The veteran actress starred in numerous films including the 2004 Lav Diaz-helmed movie “Ebolusyon ng Isang Pamilyang Pilipino,” “Nocebo” (2022), and “Ang Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan” (2023). /ra
