Ice Seguerra pays tribute to his ‘hero’ Alanis Morissette, says Grammy winner’s songs ‘a big part of my core’

Ice Seguerra penned a heartfelt thank-you letter to his “hero” Alanis Morissette, who recently finished the Manila leg of her world tour.
The singer-TV host was tapped as a special guest at Morissette’s two-night concert, which was in celebration of the 28th anniversary of her Grammy Award-winning album “Jagged Little Pill.”
Seguerra, who excitedly announced last month that he would be the concert’s opening act, was emotional during an encounter with the Canadian-American artist, who complimented the Filipino singer’s performance.
In an Instagram video uploaded by his wife, actress Liza Diño, the singer-songwriter told Seguerra, “You sounded so good.” Earlier in the short clip, the “Call Me Tita” actor took the chance to tell Morissette in person, “You’re my hero.”

Seguerra also shared snaps from the heartwarming moment on his Instagram page, including photos in which he and Morissette were joined by Diño.

With more words to say for the “Ironic” hitmaker, Seguerra took to Instagram to express how Morissette’s songs have impacted his life since he was a teenager.
“Thank you so much for making time to meet us today. When I told you [that] you were my hero, I wanted to let you know that ‘Mary Jane’ made me feel better during rough times in my teenage years. ‘Perfect’ was my companion when I felt like I wasn’t good enough,” shared Seguerra, who named another track from “Jagged Little Pill” that had been instrumental in his growth as a person.
“During my late 20s, ‘You Learn’ made me feel like all the sh*t I had to endure made me stronger,” he said, adding that, as he’s about to approach his 40s, the song ‘Thank U’ from the “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie” album “sums up my gratitude for my life journey.”
The former child star also shared that he started to develop a “deeper level” of appreciation for Morissette’s singles when he became and matured as a musician.
“I have been singing your songs way before I had a music career, and since finding my way as a singer and musician, I have grown to appreciate your songs on a deeper level,” he said.
The “forever fan” expressed that all he had hoped for was to “relive the songs that are a big part of my core” as part of an audience and that he had never expected to be given the opportunity to open the seven-time Grammy winner’s concert and meet her face to face.
“I was in the audience when you first came to the Philippines; I watched the JLP ( “Jagged Little Pill”) anniversary tour a few years back in California. I bought concert tickets when it was announced that you were coming here. I just wanted to relive the songs that are a big part of my core. But I never thought I would open the concert and meet you,” said Seguerra, who once again expressed his gratitude to Morissette for her inspiring music.
“Thank you for the past two nights that we [got] to sing the songs with you, that has been our comfort, and inspiration for the past 25++ years. We grew along with your songs…We are grateful to have you here in the Philippines. You and your band were awe-inspiring,” the “Be Careful with My Heart” actor told Morissette, before capping off his letter by wishing his hero “a great tour.”

For his performance, Seguerra delighted fans with a variety of songs, from his hit “Pagdating ng Panahon” and Eraserheads’ “Ang Huling El Bimbo” to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and The Beatles’ “Come Together,” among others.
Morissette, who performed for Filipino fans almost 27 years ago in November 1996, was supposed to return to the country in 2020, but the pandemic forced the postponement of her shows in Manila as well as in other parts of the world. Her much-awaited comeback in the country would be delayed by more postponements before she was able to successfully stage her show last Aug. 1. /ra
