When Park Eun-bin was called onstage one rainy Saturday, starstruck expressions can be seen among reporters as a figure with a bright smile — which is almost reminiscent of sunshine — stepped onstage.

The actress, who exploded in popularity after starring as Woo Young-woo in the hit series “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” was bright as she showed her appreciation to those who made time to see her at the media conference despite the weather. This, and her tearful acceptance speech at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards last April, is a display of her wholesome demeanor, with the heart of a dreamer.

The Baeksang Arts Awards is one of the most prestigious award shows in South Korea, as it honors the best of the country’s film, television, and theater industry. And for the actress, winning the Daesang or Grand Prize is a dream come true.

“When I was still young, I always wanted to win a Daesang so I was so happy when I finally reached my dream,” Eun-bin said, who started acting at five years old.

“The award is a huge thing for me and I feel like I achieved my goal. While I don’t have new goals at the moment, I’m still happy. I still can’t say my new goals and dreams at the moment since I want to savor my happiness now. Then from there, I will look for my new dream,” she continued.

Despite winning a prestigious award, Eun-bin remained humble as ever, saying she would use her recent achievement as an inspiration to do better in her next project.

“Last year, ‘Squid Game’ was the one who won the Daesang. But this year, I received the award as Park Eun-bin, so this is a big thing,” she said. “Even so, I will do my best in my future projects and [hopefully], I will achieve more than the Grand Prize.”

When she was asked about her initial reaction about winning the award, the actress said she’s touched with the support she received from fans coming from different parts of the globe.

“I thought that many people were even happier than me when I won the Daesang. I was touched by the fans who supported me when I won the award. During the Baeksang awards, I saw their happy reactions, so I was able to feel their energy when I received my award,” she said.

‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ and upcoming project

The actress also expressed her gratitude to those who supported her hit K-drama, saying she didn’t expect that the series would touch the hearts of viewers from different parts of the world.

“‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ was famous not only in South Korea but also in different parts of the world. I was really surprised because I didn’t expect that it would touch the hearts of people,” she said. “What makes me happy is that even if we have different cultures and languages, we all have the same love for the series.”

During the media conference, Eun-bin also revealed that she’s set to star in the upcoming K-drama “Diva of the Deserted Island,” where she’ll take on the role of an aspiring singer.

“My upcoming project tells the story of a person who got stranded on a deserted island for 15 years after getting into an accident. But it will revolve around what happens once this person was able to leave the island,” she said.

“I also [discovered] that there are so many islands in the Philippines, so I feel like my Filipino fans will be able to relate to the series and characters,” she said, however, she remained tight-lipped about the details of its premiere date and castmates.

The actress’ upcoming project is seemingly a far jump from the wholesome Woo Young-woo, but she’s excited to take on a new challenge to showcase more of her acting skills.

“There are still a lot of characters that I haven’t done yet, so I will do my best to choose good projects to receive my fans’ support and energy… I know many of you wouldn’t believe this but I love all of my characters in the same way,” she said.

With a big smile on her face, Eun-bin also shared that she would be singing in her new project. Perhaps, singing the hit song “Cupid” by Fifty Fifty during her fan meet is a seeming hint to the upcoming series.

“Hopefully, if given the chance, I will be able to perform my drama’s original soundtrack for the Philippine fans,” she said. EDV
