In the world of social media, where people can say whatever they want anonymously, bashing is par for the course. And this is something that many celebrities have had to learn to bear or deal with.
At this point in their developing careers, Kyline Alcantara and Mavy Legaspi—whose love team is fondly called “MavLine”—have already gotten used to sifting constructive criticism from plain vitriol.
“People’s opinions matter. Some criticisms will make you realize that there are still things you can correct and areas that you can still improve or work on. But some are out of context, and we choose not to mind them,” Kyline said at a press conference for GMA 7’s new romantic series “LUV IS: Love at First Read.”
‘Courting stage’
While the two actors have already admitted that they’re at the “courting stage,” there are some people who insinuate that Kyline and Mavy’s closeness and sweet exchanges on social media are just for show.
“We know the truth. We show people what’s real for us. Except for our projects, what we do isn’t scripted—no one’s telling us to do this or that,” Kyline said.
And what they do know is that what they have is something “special.” In fact, Mavy said, their respective families have been trying to get to know each other.
“We definitely have something special. My mom (Carmina Villaroel) is very protective but she’s willing and open [to the idea of me being in a relationship] because she sees that I’m able to balance work, love and time for myself and my family.”
The entertainment press couldn’t help but notice Kyline and Mavy holding hands, being sweet and clingy with each other before going onstage. “I feel kilig when Kyline looks at me,” Mavy said. “I feel like her eyes say so many things when she looks at me,” he said, adding that “trust” and “transparency” play a big role in their blossoming romance.
“We can be 100 percent honest with each other. We can trust each other in whatever we do. Those things have been a big help as we go along,” he added.
Kyline, on the other hand, was touched by Mavy’s recent television interview in which he referred to her as “my world.” “It was a kilig moment. I mean, who wouldn’t feel that way? It was my first time to feel that kind of appreciation from a person,” she said.
Hopeless romantic
A collaboration between GMA and Wattpad Webtoon Studios, “Love at First Read” is based on a popular web novel by the same title by the author Chixnita. The story, which has over 23 million views on Wattpad, follows Kudos (Mavy), a hopeless romantic and playboy looking for the perfect girl.
He then stumbles upon a diary on his train commute. The more he reads the entries, the more he believes that its owner, Abby, is the one for him. Later on, he meets Angelica, a jaded girl who distrusts men and has no interest in love. Unbeknown to Kudos, the women (Kyline) are the same person.
Working together, Kyline said, made her realize just how much Mavy loves his craft. “There’s the professionalism. I saw the fire in him every taping day. He’s always willing to learn and do the scenes as best as he could. He listens to constructive criticism. I find that inspiring. Seeing that motivated me to do my job better,” she said.
Mavy acknowledges the fact that Kyline is the more experienced between them and appreciates every bit of help and support she gives him on the set. “I’m blessed to receive her love—tough love at times. I would rather have it (comments) direct to the point than be told nicely because I’m always willing to learn,” he said.
“She goes the extra mile when I have difficulties on the set—when I fumble the Tagalog line or I can’t give the right emotions,” he added. “And she helps me even if she’s tired.”
“I’m grateful I get to work in this industry with someone as beautiful as Kyline because she makes everything easier. The noise outside gets blocked off when I’m around her. All the pressure goes away when I’m with her,” Mavy said. INQ
