JV Ejercito says new Eat Bulaga hosts may need name plates; ‘trabaho lang’ for Paolo Contis, says Lolit Solis

MANILA, Philippines — The longest-running noontime show “Eat Bulaga” has a new set of hosts, but some of them may probably need to wear nameplates, Senator JV Ejercito said on Monday.
Ejercito’s reaction seemed to echo the sentiments of viewers who watched the new “Eat Bulaga” program rolled out by TAPE Inc. following the departure of its original hosts, Tito and Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, as well as the show’s other mainstays.
The new hosts introduced were Paolo Contis, Legaspi twins, twins Cassy and Mavy Legaspi, comedians Betong Sumaya, and Buboy Villar. Also part of the show were actress-model Alexa Miro, who is rumored to be the girlfriend of presidential son Sandro Marcos, and the girl group, XOXO.
But Ejercito said that he could not help but compare them to the original hosts and co-hosts.
“The ‘new’ Eat Bulaga!” Ejercito wrote on Twitter. “Parang kailangan nila lagyan ng name plates ang ibang talents,” he added, followed by a peace sign emoji.

Most netizens who commented on INQUIRER.net’s Facebook page seemed to agree with him. Some also commented on how the show seemed to be a poor substitute to the original.

In another tweet, however, Ejercito came to the defense of the new talents of the show.
“We shouldn’t bash the talents of the new EB. Hanapbuhay nila as talents,” he said.

Meanwhile, Contis’ talent manager Lolit Solis came to his defense, saying that he was just being a good soldier when GMA Network asked him to take on the job.
“Trabaho lang, walang personalan. Dahil kahit kelan hindi papasok sa isip ni Paolo na magiging katapat siya sa programa ng Tito, Vic at Joey. Under siya ng management ng GMA Artists Center at kung anong trabaho ang ibigay sa kanya, tinatanggap niya. A good soldier following his superior. Talagang hindi mo maiiwasan mga ganitong pangyayari. Kahit nga si Paolo hindi akalaing mangyayari ito pero iyon ang gusto ng management niya, at palagay ko naman hindi magiging dahilan para magkaroon ng bad blood sa mga involved,” she said on Instagram.

She also noted that Tito, Vic and Joey were his idols even when he was still a kid.
“Bata pa siya fan na siya ng Tito, Vic and Joey. Ironic na nangyari ang ‘gulo’ ng TVJ at heto ngayon, isa sa host si Paolo Contis sa programa na ilalagay sa dating oras ng Eat Bulaga,” Solis said.
