Enchong Dee fanboys over a barefoot Cate Blanchett at Cannes
Still reeling from his first Cannes Film Festival experience, the affair just leveled up for Enchong Dee after his encounter with Hollywood A-lister Cate Blanchett as the sidelines of the world-famous entertainment event.
Dee was in Cannes for the screening of the Filipino action film “Topakk” last May 18, together with fellow actors Arjo Atayde and director Richard V. Somes.
On his third day at the festival, Dee was lucky enough to have come up close to Blanchett, who was also there for the red carpet screening of the film “The New Boy” which she produced and she is starring in.
“Day 3 thoughts: Ang mundo ng isang aktor ay hindi nananatili sa loob ng bansa. Malaki ang mundo. Malayo ang lalakbayin. Masarap matuto. Nakaka-excite gumawa ng pelikula na maipapalabas mo sa mga banyaga. Thank you Lord pina-experience mo to sakin,” Dee said as he narrated his Cannes experience on Instagram, including having a photo taken with Blanchett.

(The world of an actor is not meant to just be confined to his country. The world is big. There’s still a long way to go. It’s nice to learn new things. It’s exciting to make films that you can show off to foreigners. Thank you, Lord for allowing me to experience this.)
As can be seen in his video, the Hollywood actress was waving to the crowd without her shoes on, though her long cream-colored Louis Vuitton dress with a black cape and and huge embellished pockets more than covered her bare feet.
Dee said attending the Cannes festival was just a surreal dream-come-true, but it was even better because they were for the world premiere of their film.
“Grabe ka Lord… PS Direk @aalixjr thanks for bringing me to watch The New Boy, tapos nasa likod lang natin si Cate,” he said, referring to film director Adolf Alix Jr., who was also part of the Philippine delegation to Cannes. He said, in another Instagram post, that the once in a lifetime experience has been saved in his “core memory.”
(You are great, Lord… PS Direk @aalixjr thanks for bringing me to watch The New Boy, and Cate was right behind us.)
Aside from Dee, also at Cannes was actress Bela Padilla, who herself shared her fangirling experience with South Korean actor Song Joong-ki who made his first red carpet appearance for the movie “Hopeless,” together with wife Katy Louise Saunders, who was due to give birth in June. EDV
