MANILA, Philippines—With the 2023 Binibining Pilipinas pageant approaching the homestretch, beauty queen-turned-news anchor and host Emma Tiglao, who is an alumna of the annual search, shared a piece of advice to this year’s aspirants: “Put God in the center of it.”

The 2019 Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental titleholder said she believes she was able to receive all the advice she could get when she was competing, and reminded the ladies that aside from training for the question-and-answer round and for their runway walk, the most important tip is centering on one’s faith.

“If He becomes your core, anything and everything is possible,” she told the Inquirer in an interview at the office of Lueur Lauren International Corp. in Quezon City last month.

The homegrown beauty company renewed their partnership with Tiglao as their ambassador, a relationship that started in 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The partnership has been very helpful for Tiglao, especially now that she is seen twice daily on national TV, as host of the morning show “Kada Umaga,” and anchor on the primetime newscast “Mata ng Agila,” both on Net25.

Skin care

Such a schedule is putting a strain on her skin, not only because of the heaps of makeup she needs to put on her face, but also because of the limited time she has for sleep.

Four years since winning her crown, and two years after relinquishing her title, Tiglao is still living the life of a beauty queen, working on just a few hours of sleep while also required to look fresh and beautiful for the public.

And because of this, she also reminded the 2023 Bb. Pilipinas candidates to moisturize their skin.

“When we’re sleep-deprived, our skin becomes dry. Even if you drink lots of water, it won’t be enough. What I do is I put on a collagen sheet mask once a week. I also put it in the fridge first so it’s cool on the face and helps close the pores,” she shared, while adding that she also applies the excess serum inside the pack on her neck, hands, elbows, and knees.

Tiglao says the bottom line is having a good skincare routine. For her, she starts with a facial foam to remove all the excess makeup after a full day of TV work.

She then uses a toner that she sometimes just dabs on her face.

“I don’t use cotton pads,” she revealed. She also alternates a BB cream and a powder to prevent skin irritation. And for fine lines or marks left by pimples, she finds a spot corrector useful.

Sunblock

She also emphasized the value of using sunblock.

“Even if it is not summer, I use it. Our skin needs it. We need to carry one all the time. I also found a good one that has aloe extract,” Tiglao shared.

Tiglao is one of the most recognizable faces in the national beauty pageant circle.

She has made the rounds of different national competitions, starting with the 2012 Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant where she finished as a runner-up.

Her valedictory was at the 2019 Miss Intercontinental pageant in Egypt where she cracked the Top 20 and received the Miss Sunrise Popularity and Miss May Care awards.

The 2023 Bb. Pilipinas Grand Coronation Night will be on May 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at the Araneta City in Quezon City.
