Following the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Ai-Ai delas Alas weighed in and expressed her dismay, saying the late Princess Diana, mother of the future king, Prince William, should have been the one crowned as ruler of the United Kingdom.
Delas Alas took to her personal Instagram page on Sunday, May 7 to share her thoughts about the British royals, as she posted an old picture of Diana.
“Naalala ko sya,” she began. “[Na-sad] ako kasi dapat sya ang Queen Diana. [Di bale] na hayaan na wala ako magagawa and wala din naman silang pakialam sa opinyon ko pero tingin ko hindi lang ako ang nakakaramdam nito ngayun,” she said in the caption.
(I remember her. I feel sad because she is the one who should’ve been Queen Diana. Oh well, let’s let things be because I can’t do anything about it. They don’t care about my opinion either. But I believe that I am not the only one with this sentiment.)
The reactions to actress-comedienne’s opinion appear to be mixed, as seen in the comments of her post, with some advising her to “move on” while others agreed with opinion.
One @shebalicud_77 said, “Tama ka po Ms Ai, I’m from England Pero not the whole country is rejoicing… Princess Diana was supposed to be our Queen.”
Another @rubieannborgonos wrote, “She will forever be the Queen for each and everyone of us who have witnessed how she suffered during her marriage.Camila is not even half of what Diana is.”
Meanwhile, Instagram user @angelaeiram07 pointed out, “Move on na Ms Ai. Princess Diana was not meant to be a Queen of GB: She will never be and she never wanted to be. There are rules and duties for the Royal Families which Princess Diana did not agree to follow. She died [in] 1997. The longest reigning queen of GB was Queen Elizabeth 2… Though not all are happy with the coronation, the majority of British people and Royals/ Leaders of the world are celebrating with the event!”
Charles III, who ascended the throne following the death of his mother Elizabeth II last September 8, was crowned along with his wife Camilla as the United Kingdom’s rulers at Westminster Abbey last May 6.
Diana was the first wife of Charles and mother of Princes William and Harry, before finalizing her divorce from the King in August 1996. She passed away due to a car crash at the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, France a year later.
Charles and Camilla’s relationship has been mired in controversy, especially as Diana alluded to their extramarital affair during a 1995 interview with BBC’s Panorama, saying, “there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.” EDV
