Liza Diño thanks Alfred Vargas for help in giving FDCP budget boost in Congress
Former Film Development Council (FDCP) chair Liza Diño expressed her gratitude to former congressman and now Quezon City councilor Alfred Vargas for the support he gave while she was still the FDCP chair, among them for the grant of a bigger budget for the film council.
“Reconnected with former congressman now QC councilor Alfred Vargas yesterday to explore possible collaborations,” she said as she shared a picture of her lunch date with the young politician on Instagram.
She acknowledged that Vargas was a big help when she was still in public office.
“Napakalaki ng suportang binigay ni Cong. Alfred when I was still head of FDCP because he was my sponsor in Congress kaya every budget hearing, he represents FDCP sa plenary at katuwang sa paghingi ng (and supporter in asking) additional budget to support my programs,” she explained.

If there’s one thing that she admires most about Vargas, it is his patience “listen to my two-hour presentations about our projects” when normally they were just given 30 minutes for the presentation.
Diño related the conversation she had with Vargas, saying, “Yesterday sabi nya ‘Liza, do you remember your budget when you started sa FDCP? P76 million but when you left, almost 300M na ang budget ng FDCP ngayon. You should be proud of yourself, 390% increase in six years a huge achievement. If there’s one thing na nagawa mo, na-convince mo ang policymakers na hindi maliit ang FDCP and ang laki ng function nyato elevate our film industry.'”
With this, Diño is more than just grateful for the support he extended to her leadership at FDCP. “Thank you so much for this. We are on the cusp of change and only through collaboration and the willingness to adapt can we reach success,” she said. EDV
