A famous Canada-based content creator has said that Regine Velasquez may yet have her “rightful successor” in young hitmaker Morissette Amon.
Ovela, whose music-centered YouTube channel Music Game News has currently over a million subscribers, said that the “Akin Ka Na Lang” hitmaker could be Velasquez’s heir apparent, citing their singing abilities and comparing them with other artists, such as Jonalyn Viray, Lani Misalucha, Sarah Geronimo, Katrina Velarde, Aicelle Santos, and Kyla.
During the video, Ovela revealed that he got “goosebumps” from Velasquez’s voice that is “out of this world,” as he praised her “phrased high notes and stamina” while showing performances from her renditions of the song “How Could You Leave.”
“Even at 50 years of age, I still believe that she is still a knockout. But obviously when she was still in her 30s or late 20s, oh my god. She was on the top of her game, and she was even doing other things like acting” he said in a video titled “Impossible OPM Songs to Sing Live! Top Class Filipina Singers.” The Asia’s Songbird is 53 years old, having just celebrated her birthday last April 22.
On the other hand, Ovela did not hold back his praises for Amon’s voice as he reacted to a video of her singing the track “Di Mapaliwanag.” He then noted that her “insane high belting,” “amazing head voice,” and “extreme whistle runs” makes her the “successor” to Velasquez.
“The successor to the throne, ladies and gents,” he said of Amon. “It’s crazy. Tell me something, can Regine [Velasquez] do that? Can Katrina [Velarde] do that? I think the only one that may do this is Jona, I’m not even 100% sure.”
“I can say that [Amon] is the rightful successor to the throne that we all know that Regine has. Because on top of the whistling, she can do everything that Regine has. Everything else with such precision and excellence,” he further added, before noting that the compilation video was “made by a fan of Morissette.”
Despite the declaration, Ovela hoped that he would hear more of Filipino male singers since they are “not valued the same way as female singers.” He also pointed out that the video should’ve featured Velasquez on the last part “out of respect.”
Velasquez and Amon have yet to address the content creator’s comments on their official social media platforms, as of this writing.
It can be recalled that the singers performed together in the Sunday noontime show “ASAP Natin ‘To” several times in the past, where they did their own rendition of the songs “Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw,” “My All,” and “Never Too Far,” among many others. EDV
