Miles Ocampo disclosed that she underwent surgery and has to undergo another medical procedure after being diagnosed with a thyroid problem.

Ocampo spoke about the medical emergency she had in March while showing the scar on her neck, during a conversation with TV hosts Melai Cantiveros and Regine Velasquez in “Magandang Buhay” on Thursday, April 13.

“Nagkaroon po ako ng emergency, actually habang ginagawa ko ‘yung ‘Batang Quiapo.'” Ocampo said. “Parang late last year ko ito naramdaman [na] parang lagi akong hapong-hapo tapos ‘yung feeling na parang palaging may nakasakal sa akin, hingalin ako, nilalamig ako or naiinitan bigla.”

(I had an emergency while filming “Batang Quiapo.” It was late last year when I experienced shortness of breath—as if someone was strangling me—and sudden chills or feeling hot.)

After experiencing such symptoms, Ocampo consulted a doctor, then underwent ultrasound and biopsy.

“Nagpaano po ako, mga blood test, ganyan, and then it has something to do with my thyroid po, but at the time, hindi siya [hypothyroidism] at hindi rin siya [hyperthyroidism],” she stated.

(I took blood tests [then they found out that] it has something to do with my thyroid but at the time, it was not hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism.)

She was initially given the choice to have the surgery after a few months, but was later informed that she had to do it right away.

“Ako at that time, frustrated na ako kasi ‘yung weight ko ang iniisip ko na parang, ‘Anong nangyayari? Ginagawa ko naman ‘yung part ko.’ Tapos [sinabi ng doctor], ‘Kailangan na natin siyang operahan ASAP.’ Gano’n siya kabilis,” she recalled.

(I was frustrated at the time because of my weight and I asked myself, “What’s happening? I have been doing my part.” Then the doctor told me, “We need to do the surgery as soon as possible.” It [happened] so fast.)

Ocampo further revealed that because of the surgery, she needed to cancel her prior commitments at the time including her guesting at the ABS-CBN variety show “ASAP.”

She then thanked her family and her talent agency Crown Artist Management for taking good care of her, and credited her boyfriend, actor Elijah Canlas, for encouraging her to share her medical condition to the public.

“Ang bilis ng pangyayari kasi kung hindi ko siya naagapan, may chance na mas kumalat siya,” she stated. “Meron pa akong last procedure na gagawin, after that, maintenance na lang for life.”

(Everything happened so fast. If I did not have it checked immediately, it would have gotten worse. I will be undergoing another procedure, then after that, I’ll be taking maintenance [medicine] for life.)

Ocampo, who earned praises last February for her performance in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” noted that she is ready to return to work and that she has several projects lined up for her.  /ra
