REDWOOD City, California—One of Dolphy’s biggest romances was with actress Lotis Key, who sent this statement on his passing to ABS-CBN’s North America News Bureau:

“He’s gone.

“For this reason, or that, they say he may not be eligible for [the] coveted national recognition. I’m sure he would laugh at the thought.

“One that no politician, businessman, or preacher has yet to win—the unconditional love of the Filipino people.

“An intelligent, gracious, and unique man has passed on, and I mourn with all those who love him. In the Philippines, there will never be another movie or stage artist like Dolphy.

“That is sad because now, of all times, we need the comforting release into laughter and silliness that he instinctively provided for us.

“However, the times that shaped him have passed, and will not come again.

“My sincere condolences to his loved ones, and I pray the peace that surpasses all understanding be with them during this wrenching time of loss.”
