Gabbi Garcia’s first big purchase — a luxury watch

You never forget your first big purchase with your own hard-earned money. Whether it’s a pair of pricey shoes, a plane ticket to a dream destination or a fancy meal out with family, it’s always memorable. For Sparkle talent Gabbi Garcia, it’s something she gets to see on a regular basis, as it gives off a subtle gleam on her wrist.
The luxury watch is special to her and her favorite thing because it was one of her first major purchases. “It’s a different feeling compared to buying a car or a house and lot because I bought this just for myself,” Gabbi said.
When she was younger, she said she hardly wore watches. “I wasn’t a fan maybe because I didn’t understand the value of watches. My mom influenced me. She told me that I should invest in watches aside from shoes and bags.”
Her longtime boyfriend Khalil Ramos told her the same thing, which eventually led her to do her own research on the different watch brands. “I read up on the history of luxury watches and began to see the beauty in them. I told myself I’d save up and buy my first luxury watch.”
Gabbi finally decided on a two-toned gold-and-steel Rolex with diamonds on the dial. “It’s special to me because it says a lot about my personality. Tamang maarte lang na may diamonds, so classy pa din. It goes with a lot of my outfits. I can use it in a formal event or even just wear it casually.”
In a special place
Since then, she has gradually added to her collection of wrist candy and uses them on rotation. Now, she doesn’t leave her house without strapping on a watch. “I always wear a watch, even an automatic one that needs to be adjusted regularly. I’m guilty of not manually winding my automatic watch, but I still wear it and realize that I feel secure the whole day.”
When she travels, Gabbi sets aside time so she can check out what’s available in the shops. “I like looking at unique or vintage pieces.”
At home, she keeps her “babies” in a special place. “Kapag nalulungkot ako, tinitignan ko lang sila. Masaya naman sila d’yan.”
Gabbi currently stars in “Mga Lihim ni Urduja” on GMA where she plays Crystal, a budding entrepreneur and jewelry designer. She is also the first Filipina Taiwan tourism ambassador.
