Kapuso sweethearts Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz have set from the start there should be no room for cheating in their relationship, saying that their romance is bound by trust.

The celebrity couple, who made their relationship official in November 2022, opened up about their thoughts on cheating in a March 16 episode of the talk show “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda,” as seen on GMA Network’s YouTube channel on the same day. The topic was brought up by TV host Boy Abunda after he talked about their upcoming film, “The Cheating Game.”

“Actually, ang hirap niyang i-define,” San Jose said, when she was asked to define what cheating is about. “Iba-iba kasi tayo ng interpretations [ng cheating]. Basta, it’s something that you do when you’re not content in a relationship.”

(Actually, it’s hard to define it. We have different interpretations of cheating. Perhaps it’s something that you do when you’re not content in a relationship.)

On the other hand, Cruz stressed that it’s the responsibility of a couple to remain content in their relationship to avoid being tempted by the urge to cheat.

“Pag nasa isang relationship ka, for me kasi, sagrado ‘yun eh. Kung nasa relasyon ka, dapat contented ka with your partner and the person that you love,” he began. “Kung hindi ka contented, may mga tendencies na hahanapin mo talaga ‘yun sa ibang tao and then [nahihirapan kang] makipaghiwalay. Then ang naging tendency is nagkakaroon ng cheating.”

(For me, when you’re in a relationship, it’s supposed to be a sacred thing. When you’re in a relationship with someone, you should be content with your partner and the person that you love. When you’re not content, there’s a tendency to look for something that can be found with someone else — and when you’re scared to break up with your partner — this becomes cheating.)

The “Maria Clara At Ibarra” actress was then asked what she considers to be cheating, where she also maintained that Cruz is not the type of person who would be unfaithful to her.

“Depende sa [type of] conversation, pero kapag under the table, medyo shady na siya. Kasi you’re allowing the person to flirt or make landi with you. And then you landi back,” she said in response.

“Hindi ako confrontational na tao eh, hindi ko aawayin [si Rayver] kapag [may nag-express ng interest sa kanya]. But we’ll talk about it, pero kilala ko naman si Rayver. Hindi siya ‘yung type [to cheat],” she further added.

(It depends on the conversation. But if you’re doing something under the table, it’s kind of shady because you’re allowing the person to flirt with you. And then, you flirt back. I’m not a confrontational person, I’m not going to be mad at Rayver when someone expresses their interest towards him. But we’ll talk about it. However, I know Rayver. He’s not the type of person to cheat.)

The “All Out Sundays” host, meanwhile, also noted that while he’s confident in his relationship with San Jose, he admitted that he would confront the person who oversteps their boundaries with the singer-actress.

“Confident din ako. Pero kapag may nag-overstep [ng] boundaries, Kakausapin ko siya. ‘Preno ka na nang konti, ‘bro,” he said, although he noted that he hasn’t confronted anyone when it comes to his romance with San Jose. (I’m confident too. But if someone oversteps their boundaries, I’m going to talk to them. “Stop for a while, bro.”)

During the interview, the “The Clash” hosts were asked if they would end their relationship should one get caught cheating, to which Abunda noted that it’s a hypothetical question.

“Kasi kapag sinabi mong cheating, cheating na eh. Parang wala siyang excuse. So, done,” San Jose responded. (When you say cheating, it is cheating. There is no excuse. So, done.)

Cruz, however, noted that it might be difficult to end the relationship if cheating happens among married couples.

“I agree with Juls. Pero depende sa sitwasyon, [kunwari] kapag pamilyadong tao na, maybe depende sa kasalanan. Ako, baka for the kids, baka pwedeng maayos para sa mga bata. Pero I agree with Julie na kapag nagloko ka na, magka-crash na ‘yung trust mo eh,” he added.

(I agree with Juls. But it depends on the situation. For example, if this person is married and they have children, maybe it depends on the gravity of the mistake. For me, it can be fixed for the kids. But I agree with Julie that if you cheat on someone, you lose trust.)

The Kapuso stars made their relationship official when they exchanged “I love yous” during San Jose’s “Juliverse” concert last November 2022. Their romance was also confirmed by the actor-dancer’s manager Albert Chua through a private message.

San Jose also revealed in an exclusive interview with the Inquirer that she and Cruz got to know each other on a “deeper” level during their “Limitless” show in Siquijor. EDV
