Filipino shows ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra,’ ‘KMJS,’ ‘KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan’ shortlisted for New York Festivals

Nine GMA TV projects, including the hit teleserye “Maria Clara at Ibarra” and “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS),” and ABS-CBN’s “KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan” are on the shortlist of the prestigious New York Festivals TV & Film Awards for its 2023 edition.

The shortlist was announced by the organization on its official website on Thursday, March 16, in recognition of multiple entries from the TV and film industry from different areas around the world.

Among the categories are Corporate Image, Craft: Films/Productions, Craft: Program, Craft: Promotion/Open and ID, Craft: Documentary, Entertainment Program, Entertainment Special, Films, News Program, News: Reports and Features, Promotion/Open and IDs, Sports Program, Streaming, and Student.

GMA’s “Maria Clara At Ibarra” was included in the shortlist for Entertainment Program: Drama category, while the network’s documentaries “The Atom Araullo Specials” and “i-Witness” were also recognized by the awards-giving body.

Meanwhile, KMJS’ “Eleven” and “Wounds of Woes” episodes, as well as “Born to be Wild: Primate Planet” and “Reporter’s Notebook,” earned nods under the Documentary category.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN’s “KBYN” was nominated for Best Public Affairs Program.

GMA screenwriter Suzette Doctolero, series head writer of “Maria Clara at Ibarra,” expressed her excitement over the recognition, as seen in her personal Twitter account.

“New York Fest nomination for Mcai! Wohooooo! Hellooooooo, New York City,” she wrote.

The winners will be announced at a virtual gala event on April 18, although additional details are yet to be revealed.

The New York-based arts and media awards giving body is known for recognizing “exceptional and innovative content” in the media industry, as mentioned on its official website. EDV
