Min Yoon-gi, also known as Suga of K-pop supergroup BTS, celebrated his 30th birthday by donating ₩100 million (approximately P4.1 million) to the victims of the earthquake that devastated Turkey (now called Türkiye) and Syria.
Suga’s donation was confirmed by the nonprofit organization Save The Children in a report by Korean media outlet Osen on Thursday, March 9 — which coincided with the “Daechwita” hitmaker’s 30th birthday.
“So many children and families have been damaged by the earthquakes. I express condolences to the survivors and victims. I hope that my donation might help the children who are suffering and hope it can be used to support relief goods for the children,” Suga was quoted as saying, according to The Korea Herald.
According to the NGO, the singer-songwriter’s financial assistance will be used for school supplies, mattresses, winter blankets, and other important necessities needed in the areas that were affected by the earthquake.
The BTS member is known for his philanthropic gestures since his debut. He previously donated to the Korea Pediatric Cancer Foundation, child cancer patients at the Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital, and more.
On Feb. 6, a magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 earthquakes struck Türkiye and Syria, which caused widespread destruction in both countries. EDV
