MANILA, Philippines — A resolution commending John Arcilla for bagging the best actor award in the 78th Venice International Film Festival was adopted in the Senate on Wednesday.

Senate Resolution No. 490, filed by Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid, himself an actor even before joining politics, congratulated and commended Arcilla for winning the coveted Volpi Cup for best actor in the 78th Venice International Film Festival in 2021.

Arcilla was present during the plenary session when the resolution was being taken up and eventually adopted.

Several senators, including Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., who also came from the movie industry, expressed their support for the resolution.

“The success of John Arcilla is a testament to the world-class talent, skill, and passion of the Filipino, which brings inspiration to aspiring artists and creative individuals in the country,” the resolution stated.

“Recognizing this achievement of John Arcilla is in accord with the Constitution’s acknowledgment of the importance of arts and culture in fostering patriotism and nationalism and in promoting total human liberation and development,” it added.

Arcilla is the first Southeast Asian to clinch the Volpi Cup for best actor for his role as an unscrupulous journalist seeking redemption in Erik Matti’s film On the Job 2: The Missing 8. EDV
